A flash flood emergency was declared after heavy rain flooded roads in Broward County.
According to forecasters and officials, heavy rain has caused flooding in Florida, halting flights at Fort Lauderdale's airport and making roads impassable. On Wednesday evening, the National Weather Service issued a flash flood emergency for areas near Hollywood, Dania Beach, and Fort Lauderdale. Radar estimates show that the area has received around 11 to 12 inches of rain, and up to 17 inches closer to the coast. The rain is still falling at around 4 inches an hour, according to Chuck Caracozza, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Miami. Caracozza urges people to avoid the roads and stay indoors due to the dangerous conditions. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport has closed to flights and warned drivers to avoid the area as entrance and exit roads are flooded. NBC Miami has broadcast video footage of flooding in an airport parking garage and cars driving through flooded streets in Dania Beach. Flights suspended at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport due to bad weather
At the moment, arrivals and departures at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport have been temporarily halted due to adverse weather conditions. A Tornado Warning for the area was issued until 4:45 p.m.
